Nurturing for a Lifetime of Learning
Pre-K1
3-4 years
Our Pre-School Program is designed to promote the development and enhance the learning of each individual child. We do this through teacher directed activities, one-on-one experiences, and learning centers. We encourage children to extend their thinking through music and movement, gross motor skills, open-ended activities, and art projects.
Teachers – Our Pre-School teachers are certified in education and have experience teaching young children. They are consistent, positive and fun. We use praise along with positive reinforcement to encourage each child to work to their potential. We create a comfortable and exciting learning environment for each child.
Curriculum – Our curriculum is designed to inspire children to create, move and interact. We follow monthly educational units that are broken down to weekly themes and are explored throughout all subject areas. We teach those who are learning, enrich those who are prospering and work with those who are struggling. With a print-rich environment and an abundance of teacher resources every child is able to learn at his own pace.
- Literacy: Children explore their environment and build a foundation for learning to read and write. We teach identification of letters, some letter-sound matches, rhyming words, identifying labels and signs, and understanding that print carries a message. Phonemic awareness, shared reading and finger plays are taught daily and reinforced during learning centers.
- Math/Science: We explore concepts of counting, matching, patterning, ordinal positions, and more/less. Each day provides hands-on opportunities for children to explore the world around them. Science experiments allow children to explore, discover, and record their findings in a variety of scientific topics.
- Writing: Children learn writing skills beginning with tracing lines and shapes. They continue their studies with basic letter formation and names. By the end of Pre-School we hope each child will write their own name and some letters.
Friendship and Fun – We strive to reinforce values introduced at home such as respect, generosity and honesty. Children practice these values with friends and teachers during lessons, transitions and play time. We use music and fingerplays to reinforce positive behaviors.
Extras – Music, Dance, Art and Spanish are integrated within lessons and reinforced daily. Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively in a comfortable environment and are praised for their unique ideas. Children are invited to showcase their talents at the Holiday Program in December. Happy Feet is offered as an extra curricular activity throughout the year.
